Ingram Micro Fuels Customer Growth in Digital Era with ‘Round the Clock’ Business Automation from BMC
FORTUNE 100 Company Automates 900,000 Batch Transactions per Week with Zero Downtime, Ensuring Efficiency and Minimizing Risk
HOUSTON – November 16, 2016 – BMC, the global leader in IT solutions for the digital enterprise, today announced that Ingram Micro (NYSE: IM) is using BMC’s Control-M solution to centralize and automate business operations, enabling speed, agility, and higher customer satisfaction.
Ingram Micro offers solutions from 1,700 high-profile technology suppliers via 122 distribution centers in 160 countries. Ranked number 62 in the 2015 FORTUNE 100®, the company is the largest distributor of wholesale technology products in the world with over $46 billion in revenues. To support such a large global organization, the IT team manages 900,000 batch executions per week. BMC’s Control-M allows Ingram Micro IT to centralize workload automation in a single tool and standardize the way workloads run across its environment.
“Control-M is vital to the success of our IT team and our company because without optimized completion of mission-critical jobs related to manufacturing, supply chain, inventory, orders, and invoicing, we’d be unable to serve our customers,” said Don Snios, senior manager of operations and scheduling at Ingram Micro. “We now have two data centers running more than 30,000 business processes with an amazing level of reliability and stability, and we didn’t experience a single crucial outage in 2015.”
BMC’s Control-M solution automates faster remediation of issues that arise during batch processing, enabling a team of six at Ingram Micro to complete the work of 30 full-time IT employees working seven days a week. As a result, the core IT team is available to focus on other responsibilities critical to the business and customer satisfaction.
“Ingram Micro has built its market-leading reputation by delivering a broad and deep spectrum of technology and supply chain services to businesses around the world,” said Gur Steif, president, workload automation at BMC. “By providing the confidence to automate thousands of jobs with zero downtime, BMC minimizes risk, increases efficiency, and ensures things happen on time, every time – allowing Ingram Micro’s customers and partners to help businesses fully realize the promise of technology.”
Ingram Micro’s trust in BMC’s Control-M was re-affirmed during a recent migration of 3,000 workloads from the data center in Dallas to one in Chicago. Each job required changes to its code, which is estimated to have taken an average of 10 minutes per job. With the Control-M solution, Ingram Micro was able to quickly and seamlessly update key attributes automatically, saving thousands of man hours in the process.
“At the end of the day, we are constantly looking for ways to optimize our processes so we can be more agile and more efficient. Last year, we coded approximately 24,000 changes – next year, we may set the target higher. Regular enhancements from BMC make it easier for us to aim higher and reach those goals,” Snios added.
