SMP/E installation

SMP/E is an industry-standard installation method that was developed by IBM and that provides robust capabilities for unloading products and maintenance. The major trade-off for the power and flexibility that SMP/E provides is speed of installation. This diagram provides a high-level description of an SMP/E installation.

Phase 1

You can use SMP/E to RECEIVE, APPLY, and ACCEPT the product functions on the base tape. The maintenance level for functions on this tape can be at any level that the BMC Software product team requires, but generally these functions reflect the state of the product at entry to beta testing.

 

Phase 2

Using SMP/E to RECEIVE and APPLY the cumulative maintenance that is sent with the base tape brings all products that were installed in Phase 1 up to current levels.

 

Phase 3

Customizing the product is the first real customer phase. Phase 1 and Phase 2 must be completed successfully before Phase 3 can begin.
