The 2018 BMC Mainframe Survey showed that the top priority for mainframe shops was cost reduction and optimization.   Over 63% of respondents said they spend 30% or more of their mainframe budget on IBM Software Monthly License Charge (MLC) costs so it is no surprise that optimizing and reducing these costs are a priority.  In an effort to inform and educate on software cost optimization strategies, BMC is sending a team of mainframe cost management experts to the SHARE conference.  They will impart their knowledge, experiences and best practices with the mainframe community. The trade show will be in Phoenix Arizona, the week of March 11, 2019.  BMC, a proud Gold sponsor, will be at Booth #304 as well as hosting a Lunch and Learn and multiple technical sessions. Two of those sessions focus specifically on helping you reduce and optimize your mainframe software costs.

Understanding MLC Cost Impact of Performance and Capacity Management (Session 24521).

Don Zeunert, a Principal Consultant with over thirty years as a technical sales professional and a 2018 IBM Z Champion is presenting on Wednesday, March 13th.  If you do not have visibility to what is driving your MLC costs or if you are having trouble managing the Rolling 4 Hour Average, then come to this session.  Don will discuss common issues managing MLC and simple changes and mechanisms you can implement, that won’t hurt your SLAs. You might be surprised at how easily you can reduce costs by 10% without any additional software.

MLC Baselining: 3 Tips to Getting the Most Out of New IBM Pricing Models (Session 24505)

BMC’s second cost optimization session will help you to get the most out of IBM’s complex pricing models.  Container Pricing, Country Multiplex and Mobile Workload can be confusing to understand and hard to determine if they will provide a positive ROI. In many cases pricing models are based off a growth factor determined by a set baseline.  Join Steven Solomon, Lead Product Manager and Jeremy Hamilton, Product Account Executive on Friday, March 15th. Steve and Jeremy will walk you through how the baseline is set and how to optimize the baseline going forward. I highly recommend this session if you want to learn more about IBM’s pricing models and how you can determine if they are the right path forward for you!

We look forward to seeing you in these sessions and don’t forget to stop by Booth #304 and talk to our experts. Come see what else we are up to with AI, machine learning and our new product AMI for Security. In the Mainframe Survey, security for your mainframe was the second priority after cost optimization!
