CUSTOMER SUCCESS: Mexico’s Pemex Gas Transitions from Reactive to Proactive IT Management with BMC Software

BMC’s Business Service Management enables the Mexican energy giant’s gas division to predict and quickly remediate IT incidents before they occur

HOUSTON, December 17, 2009 – Mexico’s Pemex Gas y Petroquímica Básica relies on Business Service Management (BSM) from BMC Software (NASDAQ: BMC) to help make its IT services fully optimized and efficient.

Pemex Gas is a major division of Petróleos Mexicanos, Mexico’s state-owned energy company.

With BSM, Pemex Gas has been able to automate changes to an IT infrastructure of more than 300 servers and 6,000 end users, solve problems more quickly and align IT with business needs. Pemex Gas IT has transitioned from reactive to proactive and now fixes most problems quickly, before they become bigger issues for the company.

“I’m pleased at how the company has benefited from what BMC Software has helped us implement,” said Miguel Chio, IT general manager for Pemex Gas. “We’ve seen a lot of improvements in IT efficiency and effectiveness. It’s been very good for our business.”

Pemex Gas is using BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management to proactively manage the availability, performance and business impact of its SAP environment. Pemex Gas has broadened its IT management to include BMC Atrium CMDB and most recently BMC Event and Impact Management (BEIM).

With BMC Event and Impact Management, Pemex Gas IT gains a service-aware view of problems, allowing it to quickly assign and resolve issues based on business priority, before impacting critical business services and users. Pemex Gas has reduced the time and resources required to field help desk calls and open service tickets by automating these processes across IT Operations and Support. Pemex Gas now has a single, integrated approach of managing business problems, reducing mean time between failures, and increasing overall IT efficiency.

With BMC Atrium CMDB, Pemex Gas has transitioned to a true BSM platform. IT equipment, applications, servers, human resources and other elements of the IT environment are loaded into the database and tracked weekly, enabling the company to identify quickly whether someone has made changes to the system and whether the changes were authorized. Tracking changes is critical to Pemex Gas’ ability to comply with its own internal IT policies as well as government IT regulations, such as Sarbanes Oxley.

The relationship between BMC and Pemex Gas continues to evolve. The company has been so enthusiastic with the products it already uses that Pemex Gas plans to work with BMC on future projects.
