BMC Discovery for z/OS

Business Challenge

IT organizations need to collect mainframe data, identify mainframe configuration items (CIs), and see how they are configured. Today's number of IT components, their configurations, relationships between them, and the constant changes introduced by business and technology needs makes manual tracking difficult. It is impractical and costly to conduct manual audits and maintain IT service relationship and application dependency mapping information.

Business Need

  • Auto-populate and maintain the CMDB with mainframe CI and CI relationships
  • Access to a fast map of IT elements and the interdependencies of those elements
  • Deploy changes to the infrastructure quickly and seamlessly

Our Solution

BMC Discovery for z/OS identifies which IT components comprise mainframes. It extends BMC Topology Discovery to the mainframe to quickly and easily build an inventory of critical physical and logical entities along with their interrelationships. This information is then populated in the BMC Atrium Configuration Management Database (CMDB) for service modeling and service impact analysis. BMC Discovery for z/OS is part of BMC Discovery, which is a solution for capturing, reconciling, and continuously updating all three dimensions of BSM data: People, Business Process, and IT Infrastructure.
