BMC MainView AutoOPERATOR TapeSHARE

Simplify tape distribution across your z environment

IT problem

As workloads vary across LPARs, it is necessary to manually move cartridge or tape drives around LPARs to meet these workload peaks. With the constant demand on IT to reduce cost and improve performance and throughput, meeting these demands requires advanced automation, problem analysis and correction, and all performed with reduced operations resources.

BMC solution

MainView AutoOPERATOR TapeSHARE enables customers to automatically their drives where they are needed. It automatically detects unfulfilled need for a cartridge or tape drive and will move an idle cartridge drive from another LPAR, without operator intervention. It’s an integrated member of the MainView family that enables a swift transfer to problem analysis and correction, even on remote systems.

Features and benefits

  • Offers single system image and a single point of control to manage tape drives
  • Reduces number of automation failures by using the panel-driven rules processor to automate tape events
  • Provides a friendly Operator Control Display (OCD) shows the status of all cartridge and tape drives on all LPARs
  • Provides rapid out of the box functionality with minimal customization
  • Enables manual operations can be easily performed against drives on TapeSHARE controlled LPARs from the OCD

Key differentiators

  • Reduces automation cost by using High efficient, low CPU overhead automation rules without generating or using any REXX code
