BMC UNLOAD PLUS for DB2

Unload DB2 for z/OS data quickly

Managing the data that supports business applications places a heavy burden on your IT department. You may need to move data to a different DB2 subsystem, from a DB2 table to a sequential file for external processing, or to another relational database system or platform. You may need to extract a subset of rows from a table for use as test data or to unload a DB2 table for object definition changes. How can you unload the data you need while maintaining availability?

BMC solution

BMC UNLOAD PLUS for DB2 unloads DB2 tables faster and using fewer resources than the native DB2 utility. BMC UNLOAD PLUS for DB2 reads DB2 data sets (or table spaces) directly to obtain records, thus operating outside of DB2 and not competing for DB2 resources. You can convert DB2 data to other formats and then write it to the destination of your choice.

Features and benefits

  • Reduces costs of unloading DB2 data by managing its own buffering and performs I/O operations at the lowest level possible, avoiding unnecessary processing by processing objects in one pass, running outside of DB2, and eliminating the need to execute the RUNSTATS utility, sort data, and reorganize indexes separately
  • Eliminates processing of partitions that do not meet the selection criteria
  • Can unload at partition and table space level
  • Processes data with internal sort engine
  • Avoids failure when resources are unavailable - Automatic Retry
  • Reduces JCL maintenance by dynamically allocating unload data sets and new data sets when object definitions change (such as when partitions or a new table are added)
  • Allows you to capture data from a specific point in time - unloads from an image copy prior to the most recent one

Key differentiators

  • Eliminates SQL-904 outages
  • Works with your SMS configuration for unload data sets to minimize space-related abends
  • Works with BMC LOADPLUS for DB2 to reduce total processing time for unloading and reloading data
  • Unloads to consistent point in time while the table space is online and available to applications
  • Can unload data from a variety of copies, VSAM linear data sets, or encrypted copies created by BMC COPY PLUS for DB2
