BMC OPERTUNE for DB2

Dynamically reconfigure DB2 subsystem values while DB2 is online

Changes to DB2 DSNZPARM values often require outages for your DB2 on z/OS subsystem. DB2 allows some parameters to be changed but many others are not changeable without a scheduled outage. if you need to reconfigure certain parameters, you may need to bring DB2 down - resulting in an application outage.

BMC solution

With BMC OPERTUNE for DB2, you can assign resources to match system requirements in real time, enabling you respond to problems that increase cost, degrade performance, and often lead to DB2 outages. Workload changes can be tuned to eliminate under- or over- allocation of resources, and resource allocations can be changed every 30 minutes without a DB2 outage. BMC OPERTUNE for DB2 enables you to dynamically modify over 150 DSNZPARM values, and it helps you manage DB2 threads, utilities, and log configurations.

Features and benefits

  • Supports dynamic changes to more than 150 DB2 DSNZPARM configuration parameters while DB2 is online
  • Allows changes to DSNZPARM values to be implemented on a scheduled basis
  • Enables dynamic changes, including changing the active log configuration, changing DDF parameters, and cancelling DB2 threads and connections on demand

Key differentiators

  • Improved availability - enables changes to DSNZPARMs that normally require a DB2 outage
  • Flexible scheduling - allows you to schedule DSNZPARM changes based on expected fluctuations in DB2 workloads
  • Integration with BMC Pool Advisor for DB2 and BMC MAINVIEW for DB2 – implements requested changes
