Business Challenge
Change, Problem and Configuration Management are an enduring reality in data center operations. Server consolidation, replacement and maintenance downtime need to be planned carefully to ensure that critical business processes are not impacted. Change control processes therefore need to be able to map and measure the impact of downtime on complex managed processes.
Business Need
- Accurately monitor and measure the effect of resource downtime
- Predict the effect of change on critical business services
- Identify windows for optimum use of planned outages
- Provide a single location for mapping scheduled business processes to resources
Our Solution
BMC Batch Discovery, an extension to the BMC CONTROL-M solutions suite, records critical business processes as Configuration Items (CIs) within the BMC Atrium Configuration Management Database (CMDB), a crucial component in an ITILĀ® best-practices implementation. Integration with other BMC solutions - BMC Remedy, BMC Batch Impact Manager, and BMC CONTROL-M/Forecast -- enables change management staff to obtain graphical flowcharts of the processes scheduled to be run during the outage and identify those applications, which could adversely affect business service levels.
Key Features & Benefits
- Extends the CMDB to include business processes
- Produces forecasts of processes scheduled during planned outages
- Measures the effect of downtime on critical business services
- Improves customer service and maintains service levels
