BMC CHANGE ACCUMULATION PLUS

Business Challenge

Managing log data sets for recovery is costly and time-consuming because the standard IMS change accumulation utility (DFSUCUM0) processes change accumulation slowly and inefficiently. DFSUCUM0 processes only one group per job step and reads the same input log data sets each time it processes a group. For these reasons, intervals between change accumulation runs may be lengthened, resulting in increased risk of extended down time during recovery.

Business Need

  • Achieve fast change accumulation process
  • Maintain data availability during change accumulation process
  • Reduce elapsed time for group processing
  • Reduce DASD usage and I/O during processing
  • Reduce number of log data set readings

Our Solution

BMC CHANGE ACCUMULATION PLUS helps you minimize DASD usage and I/O by letting you define multiple sort tasks and by compressing and reformatting log records, which reduce the amount of sort work space needed for change accumulation. Using CHANGE ACCUMULATION PLUS saves you time and money by using parallel processing for most tasks. Parallel processing significantly reduces the time required for reading log data sets, which is the most time-consuming step in the change accumulation process.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Performs change accumulation to any point in time, allowing faster recoveries with no log input and providing incremental image copies
  • Allows creation of incremental image copies that are logically correct as verified with a pointer checking utility
  • Processes multiple change accumulation groups with a single pass of the input logs to minimize I/O activity and overall elapsed time
  • Employs multiple sort tasks with separate sort areas and optimal key lengths for maximum efficiency and speed
  • Produces multiple copies of output data sets and allows automatic registration and use of the additional copies through the Recovery Extension feature
  • Automatically selects and dynamically allocates preferred and alternate log data sets
