BMC EXTENDED BUFFER MANAGER

Business Challenge

As a company’s database application portfolio grows in variety, so does the complexity of database management. This complexity and the lack of sufficient database knowledge can create inefficient application performance and tuning. However, application and disaster recovery, along with other maintenance utility functions are still fundamental. While intelligent storage solutions are helpful, there is still an inability to coordinate DASD mirroring with the DBMS and logical database recovery.

Business Need

  • Reduce database application elapsed times
  • Provide the ability to monitor I/O activity and real-time fixes for database performance problems
  • Provide a method to tune complex I/O workloads
  • Achieve high application availability
  • Streamline utility processing

Our Solution

EXTENDED BUFFER MANAGER(XBM) uses a high-speed data caching technique which significantly reduces the number of physical I/Os by dynamically moving data in and out of cache, thus allowing faster data access. This provides faster database access for customer applications because of the decrease in I/O waits. XBM provides caching for DB2, IMS, and VSAM databases, and for MQSeries pagesets. The XBM TSO Monitor provides I/O rate statistics for real-time monitoring and dynamic caching to eliminate hot I/O conditions.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Reduces I/O and elapsed time to provide quicker access to frequently used data
  • Allows dynamic caching selection for realtime tuning
  • Improves system performance, response and elapsed times
  • Optimizes storage resources
  • Enables real-time buffer management
