Business challenge
A Web browser can be a standard communication and information gathering tool for daily business users. In the dynamic world of enterprise organizations, Web browsers enhance intranet, Internet and extranet capabilities. It is essential that organizations maximize Web use throughout the business environment.
The BMC Software solution
CONTROL/WebAccess from BMC Software turns a Web browser into a powerful outboard and inboard production management control tool. The product enables users to perform all OS/390 tasks and activities securely from the Internet.
CONTROL/WebAccess enables administrators, operators and other authorized users to view, operate and control the OS/390 environment from a single focal point. All production, output and event management activities can be uniformly accessed and maintained using standard Web browsers such as Netscape and Internet Explorer.
Operators and administrators can perform all required actions on INCONTROL for OS/390 products, whether from within or outside the organization. For example, a user can request a list of active jobs in CONTROL-M® for OS/390 and check the status of the jobs. The user can perform corrective actions using CONTROL-M or CONTROL-R®. Additionally, it is possible to view the SYSLOG from CONTROL-O® and check availability of CICS, or check the status of a decollation mission in CONTROL-D®.
While traveling with only a laptop and Internet connection, managers can track the status and progress of important processes like monthly accounting applications. With CONTROL/WebAccess there is no need to learn any new interface, tools or production terminology.
Internet access
CONTROL/WebAccess uses standard Web browsers to securely access the OS/390 environment. Once security verification is satisfied, a user can perform all authorized actions on the OS/390 products. Worldwide access to the

mainframe working environment allows personnel to fulfill daily tasks and duties that proactively prevent crises before they occur.
Managing the OS/390 environment
CONTROL/WebAccess offers a powerful OS/390 working environment and the inherent benefits of the Web. Managing OS/390 products from the Web is as easy as direct management from the mainframe, with even more flexibility and usability provided by the Web browser. Web benefits from CONTROL/WebAccess include pull-down menus, tool-tips and hypertext.
Proactive business involvement
With worldwide access to the OS/390 INCONTROL by BMC Software products at any time of the day, users can create a stable working environment. Easily accessible Web browsers allow users to conveniently observe and provide proactive timely actions for the OS/390 environment.
Interactive user involvement in production, output and event environments is essential for meeting dynamic business requirements. OS/390 users can remotely evaluate the active environments of INCONTROL for OS/390 products such as CONTROL-M, CONTROL-D, CONTROL-O and CONTROL-T® using their Web browser. It is then possible to perform any action necessary (e.g., rerun scheduled jobs and order decollation missions).
For instance, at 8 p.m. management decides that a certain report, usually scheduled to run over the weekend, must be available by the following morning. The employee responsible for the application accesses the OS/390 environment using CONTROL/WebAccess via the Internet and a Web browser. The report job is forced by CONTROL-M for OS/390 and the appropriate decollation mission is ordered by CONTROL-D for delivery of the report overnight.
Crisis prevention
The product is an essential component in the prevention of crisis situations before they occur, and in their solution when they occur. For example, CONTROL-O/Server could send a voice message to the system administrator indicating the failure of a primary OS/390 database update job. Through CONTROL/WebAccess, it is easy to remotely access the system log managed by CONTROL-O. The situation can be verified, and a recovery job can be scheduled by CONTROL-M to rectify the situation.
