eBusiness is placing greater demands on IT to provide application availability. As more companies leverage legacy data to meet these demands, the already small batch window shrinks even further.
Databases must be reorganized frequently to maximize operating efficiency to meet these demands. Traditionally, when a database is being reorganized, it must be offline and unavailable to users, potentially resulting in lost revenue.
Continuous availability is not the only worry for IT managers; the lack of experienced IMS technicians is also a real problem. Senior personnel are forced to spend time on mundane tasks instead of tackling tough problems or exploiting new technology. The end result is that many companies are not deriving the maximum value from senior personnel.

The MAXM Reorg/Online for IMS product reorganizes the parts of a database that are causing performance problems with no outage. And it virtually eliminates the downtime required for complete database reorganizations.
MAXM Reorg/Online for IMS provides a one-step reorganization with concurrent updates. Traditional reorganization utilities require separate job steps for the unload, reload, secondary index build, and image copy processes.
MAXM Reorg/Online for IMS requires only one license password to execute all functions, simplifying installation and maintenance.
Flexible reorganizations
MAXM Reorg/Online for IMS provides the ability to choose the reorganization you need. You can reorganize the parts of a database that are causing performance problems, reorganize the entire database and leave it online for updates during the bulk of the reorganization, or run individual reorganization tasks.
24 X 365 data availability
The Online/Defrag feature finds trouble spots on your database and corrects them while leaving the database online. It reorganizes just the records that need to be reorganized. The database is online throughout the entire process—absolutely no downtime is required.
At times, you still need to reorganize the entire database to make structural (DBD) changes, implement user exits, or change space allocations. However, using the Online/Defrag feature can delay the need for a complete reorganization until you have the time to do it.

Complete database reorganization
The online reorg function is an exclusive BMC Software technology that enables you to update the database in real-time while it is being reorganized. You no longer need a batch window to reorganize IMS full-function databases!
While the database is being reorganized, the online reorg function captures and records all updates made to the database, automatically applying those changes to the reorganized database at the end of the reorganization process. An image copy of the reorganized database is created. Once the reorganization tasks are complete, a short outage (usually less than two minutes) is required to swap the data set names and put the reorganized database online.
One-step reorganization
The reorg function speeds normal database reorganizations by consolidating traditional multi-step reorganization processes into a single step.
The database is reorganized to shadow databases, so the original database remains intact. If an error occurs during the reorganization, you can revert to the original database instead of recovering the database. You can eliminate the image copy before the reorganization. In addition, the reorg function creates a DBRC-registered image copy during the reorganization process. The original database is available for read-only access during the reorg.
After the reorganization completes, the reorg function automatically swaps the data set names of the original database to the reorganized database, completing the reorganization cycle.

The unload, reload, and index build functions complete individual reorganization tasks faster than any product available. They offer:
