BMC Software: ‘New IBM zEnterprise Is the Logical Extension of Business Service Management’

HOUSTON, July 22, 2010 – The global leader in IT automation and management for the hybrid datacenter, BMC Software (NASDAQ: BMC) today announced support for the IBM (NYSE: IBM) zEnterprise, a new computer that will enable customers to consolidate their IT hardware investments, a critical and logical next step in the evolution of the hybrid datacenter of the future.

IBM’s next generation zEnterprise computer supports multiple operating systems -- z/OS, Power 7 AIX and Linux -- and is a milestone in the evolution of IT hardware, bringing mainframe and distributed systems together in a single frame.
 
With today’s announcement, BMC is once again providing customers a solution that fits their cross-enterprise software management needs. As the Business Service Management (BSM) market leader for more than 30 years, BMC has been providing cross-enterprise software solutions that help businesses manage their data centers. IT organizations recognize they must move toward true end-to-end service management that allows them to support their business needs and away from the disparate management solutions that are being delivered by less strategic software vendors or by independent software vendors who do not include the mainframe in their software management strategy at all. 
 
In a recent BMC survey, a majority of customers stated that it was very important to have a vendor that could manage the zEnterprise computer from a cross-platform perspective. Respondents said they saw the zEnterprise helping to consolidate their IT efforts and provide more reliable and faster networking and processing as well as lowering their MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) and providing more power and capacity to manage growing workloads. BMC’s BSM solutions, which are designed to reduce risks and improve availability and performance of the IT infrastructure, will enable customers to maximize benefits from the new hardware.
