BMC Software Propels Customers, Partners to Cloud Computing Success with Unified Management Platform

  • New offering enables IT to manage the complete lifecycle of heterogeneous private, public and hybrid clouds
  • Customers commit more than $100M to BMC cloud foundation technology

HOUSTON, May 25, 2010 – IT management is center stage as CIOs make difficult decisions about how to best take advantage of cloud computing. To enable enterprises and service providers to successfully deliver and integrate their cloud computing strategies, BMC Software (NASDAQ: BMC) today announced the worldwide availability of BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management.

Savvy enterprise organizations and service providers recognize they cannot reap the benefits of the cloud without a robust IT management platform that extends the level of control and visibility present in their existing IT infrastructure to the cloud. Similarly, service providers look to cloud computing as an opportunity to create new and compelling service offerings as well as transform and improve their infrastructure.

BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management enables organizations to achieve the difficult act of balancing their customers’ desire for flexibility and responsiveness with their own responsibility to control, constrain, and manage the cloud environment. For more on BMC’s perspective on cloud computing, watch the video of BMC Chief Information Officer Mark Settle.

“EMA is pleased to see a cloud initiative that is a natural outgrowth of BMC’s core strengths, rightly targeting heterogeneous migrations rather than all-or-nothing leaps of faith into cloud as a panacea, as has been the case with a few of BMC’s competitors,” said Dennis Drogseth, vice president at analyst firm EMA. “BMC’s new cloud lifecycle solution set was validated across more than twenty-five customers before its general availability release this month.”

Fujitsu has embraced cloud computing to improve information and communications technology (ICT) responsiveness of its customers while also improving resource utilization and reducing operational costs.

"Fujitsu welcomes BMC's announcement of Cloud Lifecycle Management,” said Mr. Akira Yamanaka, corporate senior vice president and president of Software Business Group, Fujitsu Limited. "Through our close partnership with BMC, Fujitsu will enable mutual customers to obtain even greater value and benefit from their ICT infrastructure.”

BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management empowers enterprise customers to efficiently build and operate private clouds and consistently leverage external public cloud resources. It also enables service providers to develop and deliver the next generation of cloud services to grow their business.

New elements of BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management include:

  • A policy-driven service catalog, which personalizes the list of available service offerings and customizations, based on a user’s role
  • A self-service Web portal for requesting and controlling cloud resources – whether from a private cloud or from public cloud service providers
  • Dynamic provisioning of the entire service stack – compute, network, storage, and application -- across heterogeneous infrastructures. This includes the creation of performance-tiered secure network containers for provisioned services.
  • Out-of-the-box cloud management workflows that drive governance, performance, and compliance of cloud services—through automated assignment of compliance policies and performance monitoring tools
  • Pre-built ITSM integration for ITIL® process interaction and compliance

BMC is Making the Cloud Possible

BMC’s cloud technology is already winning support from customers, partners and service providers, with more than $100M in cloud foundation technology deals signed to date. For more information on these deals see the press release titled “BMC Software Exceeds $100 Million in Cloud Foundation Deals.”

“Blackbaud utilizes BMC’s automation and management solutions to support our business and deliver superior software-as-a-service to our nonprofit customers,” said Scott Crowder, vice president of Data Center Operations at Blackbaud (NASDAQ: BLKB). “As a long time BMC partner and pioneer in the cloud-based software market, we appreciate the progression to Cloud Lifecycle Management, enabling customers to more rapidly achieve success in this arena.”

According to Donna Scott, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner: “Many IT organizations, however, have set their sights on private cloud implementations during the next two years. This shows how desirable cloud attributes are to IT organizations — with self-service ordering and dynamic provisioning of standardized catalogued services both increasing IT agility and reducing labor and capital costs through standardization and automation."*

Cloud Service Management solutions
Cloud Lifecycle Management is a part of BMC’s Cloud Service Management portfolio, which unlike offerings from other IT vendors, is infrastructure and technology-neutral, enabling customers to rapidly achieve success with cloud initiatives while continuing to derive value from their existing IT environments.

BMC Cloud Service Management solutions reflect critical components for deriving value from cloud infrastructures: planning, lifecycle management, operations and optimization and governance.

Working with Partners
BMC is working closely with its extensive partner community to further simplify cloud deployments:

“Fundamental to any cloud offering is the ability to uniquely assign and customize different levels of security, multitenant partitioning, and service delivery capabilities to each customer and its associated virtual machines. Moreover, it’s critical to offer auto-selection of these ‘services’ from a self-service portal with full lights-out provisioning and management. Through close collaboration with Cisco’s Cloud Computing development program, BMC has delivered these must have capabilities via its BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management offering, including unique integration with Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) data center server, network, and service delivery platforms.”
Joe Wojtal, vice president of Cisco’s Service Provider System Unit

“As both a longtime BMC partner and customer, Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) supports BMC’s Cloud Service Management approach to helping enterprises and service providers establish reliable, efficient, and well-managed clouds. Cloud computing provides us an unprecedented opportunity to help customers scale and optimize their computing environments based on business demands. Approaches like BMC’s will help make this possible.”
Scott Barnes, vice president at Dell Services

“GreenPages is focused on helping clients transform their IT operations to strategically leverage the power of cloud computing. BMC Cloud Service Management solutions deliver the framework and technology that our customers need to reach their desired stage of IT maturity and achieve the flexibility, responsiveness and cost savings from the cloud.”
John Ross, CTO at GreenPages

“The introduction of BMC Cloud Service Management strengthens NetApp’s (NASDAQ: NTAP) existing partnership and combines with our unified storage architecture to provide customers with a fully automated, end-to-end cloud infrastructure that addresses server, network, and storage provisioning and management. Managing the complete lifecycle of public, private or hybrid cloud resources from a unified platform will enable our mutual customers to more quickly realize the efficiencies and flexibility associated with cloud computing.”
Patrick Rogers, vice president of Solutions and Alliances for NetApp

"Managing heterogeneous environments is essential for today's IT infrastructure. Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) is pleased to continue our work with BMC to offer our customers a wide range of solutions for deploying and using both public and private clouds."
Scott Crenshaw, vice president and general manager, Cloud Business Unit at Red Hat
