CUSTOMER SUCCESS: GaVI Drives Integrated IT Business — From the Mainframe to Distributed Environments — with BMC Software

  • European specialist insurance IT service provider enhances customer experience, reduces costs and raises productivity with BMC Software
  • BMC replaces systems from SAS and CA to provide a single, flexible, cost-effective solution across all environments

LONDON, July 7, 2009 – In the highly competitive insurance industry, business-critical applications must be highly reliable and cost effective. For GaVI (Gesellschaft für angewandte Versicherungs-Informatik mbH), IT services must also be delivered with maximum cost efficiency. With clients representing more than 10 million customers, GaVI trusts solutions from BMC Software (NYSE: BMC) to ensure the efficient operation of its IT infrastructure.

“We host a very flexible service running on a wide range of platforms, so we constantly seek strategies that can benefit all our clients,” said Alfred Everwin, GaVI IT manager. “BMC Software helps us proactively manage the performance of our business applications and hardware resources across our mainframe and distributed environments. That consistent approach means we don’t need a farm of tools to support our IT service goals, which translates into a very cost-effective solution for us and our customers.”

GaVI’s portfolio of BMC’s Performance Assurance solutions replaced tools from SAS and CA, resulting in a single, multi-environment solution that manages 350 UNIX, Windows, and Linux servers, as well as mainframe systems spread across three data centers. With BMC, GaVI has achieved:

  • Near real-time monitoring of workload and applications performance, allowing GaVI to respond more effectively to its customers.
  • Savings of $133,000 at its Munich datacenter by standardizing on the BMC solution, rather than rolling out the SAS monitoring tool.
  • Improved productivity of the existing IT staff, enabling GaVI to support increased IT workloads without increasing headcount.

“In choosing BMC’s Business Service Management (BSM) platform, GaVI is able to unify IT with the business, reduce cost and boost productivity making huge improvements to customer service. It’s a winning combination,” said Luca Lazzaron, BMC vice president and general manager for EMEA.

“For GaVI, one of the key advantages of working with BMC is that they get near real-time monitoring of workload and applications in both mainframe and distributed environments. One single, integrated toolset provides incredibly fast, accurate insight into performance analysis. Armed with this knowledge, GaVI is able to respond more effectively to its customers,” adds Nick Glover, vice president for EMEA Sales and Services in BMC’s Mainframe Service Management business unit.
