BMC Software Offers Major Updates to Industry-Leading Business Service Management Platform
HOUSTON, Texas - BMC Software [NYSE: BMC] today announced key enhancements to two pillars of its Business Service Management (BSM) platform: the BMC Remedy IT Service Management (ITSM) Suite and the BMC Atrium technology platform.
Tighter integration among the primary technologies of BMC's BSM platform makes it easier for organizations to discover, visualize, prioritize and orchestrate IT services to align with evolving needs of the business.
"Getting my cost structure down is something that is always there in the back of my mind," said Jimmy Tucker, service support manager at Lennox International. "Given recent economic events, what was a highly desirable objective has now become an urgent requirement. We know we have to do more with less. BMC has provided some very important new enhancements in its BMC Remedy ITSM 7.5, making it even more robust and easier to use, dramatically reducing the cost and time associated with
training and ticket resolution."
The new BMC Remedy ITSM 7.5 and BMC Atrium 7.5 offer tighter integration, software license management and a formalized ITIL release management process. Specific new capabilities include the ability to:
- Manage Change Across the Enterprise: The addition of the industry's only comprehensive Release Management solution allows IT to control release activities from concept to completion. By automating the process of planning, testing and rolling out software and hardware changes, BMC Remedy Change Management can increase consistency, minimize errors, and result in 20-40% efficiency gains in change and release management activities.
- Control Software Licensing Costs: Advanced software license management capabilities and tighter configuration management database integration provide a holistic and detailed view of software assets. Through improved visibility and optimization, BMC Remedy Asset Management ensures license compliance and can lead to at least a 10% reduction in current software costs.
- Maintain a "Single Source of Truth" in Dynamic Virtual Environments: The new BMC Atrium platform automatically updates business service definitions - even when change accelerators like virtualization come into the mix. A unified view of both physical and virtual IT resources ensures that everyone from process to execution is always working from the same, accurate, and relevant information.
Jean-Pierre Garbani, vice president and principal analyst, Forrester Research, wrote in the December 2008 report BSM 2.0: "The BSM model is based on the ability to automatically discover application dependencies and store them in a repository that IT management solutions can access. Bringing more intelligence and operability to IT operations helps reduce IT costs and improve the end-user experience through better performance and availability."
