Leading Research Firm: BMC Software Leads in Business Service Management (1)

  • BMC Earns the Highest Score for Current Offering in BSM (2)
  • BMC Recognized as a Leader in the $15.6 Billion IT Management Software Market (3)

HOUSTON, March 29, 2007 – BMC Software leads the Business Service Management (BSM) strategy and solutions market by aligning IT tightly with the business, according to independent analyst firm Forrester Research.   In the just-published Q107 Forrester Wave Report on Business Service Management, BMC received high scores in the report in overall current product offering, strategy and market presence.5

The seminal report on the BSM market confirms the growing importance of Business Service Management, noting it is changing the way vendors conceive and then build management software. According to the March 2007 report entitled, The IT Management Software Market, BMC is a leading vendor in the $15.6 billion IT Management Software market.6

“As a veteran in enterprise and system management, BMC took the risk of crafting this new space and supporting it with a variety of products — either engineered in-house or acquired. The final result? A solid BSM solution with a great road map and step-by-step approach to reaching BSM,” wrote Peter O’Neill, a principal analyst at Forrester Research and co-author of the Wave Report on Business Service Management.7

In addition, BMC was recognized for its Configuration Management Database (CMDB), as well as the company’s ability to truly make the connection between business services and infrastructure, and its IT infrastructure mapping and business service mapping capabilities. These offerings were identified by Forrester as critical to successful BSM initiatives.

“BMC Software has offered its product portfolio under the BSM banner for several years now, but it is its product portfolio and experience that makes it an industry leader in BSM”, writes O’Neill. “All of its service management products and the Atrium CMDB are based on the BSM concept, BMC Software has a strong customer base and a sales staff that is capable of discussing BSM challenges with clients.”8

BSM by BMC has been adopted by hundreds of companies around the world, including customers such as U.S. Department of Defense agencies, Coldwater Creek, Mary Kay, and Toyota Motorsport.

“Business Service Management has become the most effective way to manage IT environments and provide value to the business,” said Tom Bishop, BMC’s chief technology officer. “Given BMC’s position in Forrester’s Wave Report on Business Service Management, it’s easy to see why top companies around the world continue to select BMC for their BSM initiatives.  BMC has demonstrated its ability to develop innovative IT solutions that truly impact the business, and is extremely well positioned to capitalize on the explosive growth in the BSM market.”

Forrester’s Q1 2007 Wave Report on Business Service Management details the key criteria for selecting a Business Service Management solution. The analyst firm said it plans to refresh the report in approximately twelve months.  For access to the complete report, visit:
