BMC Software Announces New Auto-Discovery Solution; Provides Customers With Key First Steps Toward BSM New discovery solution critical for initial population and ongoing maintenance of CMDB HOUSTON – (March 29, 2006) – BMC Software, Inc. (NYSE: BMC) today announced the release of critical elements of a comprehensive Discovery solution for customers moving toward Business Service Management (BSM). Data collected and information processed through the use of this solution is timely, accurate, true and complete, and provides the critical technology for initial population and ongoing maintenance of a configuration management database (CMDB). Serving as cornerstones of the complete Discovery solution, BMC Foundation Discovery and BMC Topology Discovery provide asset discovery and relationship mappings of logical and physical dependencies inherent in any enterprise application. They are key to a strong BSM foundation, including the utilization of a CMDB, as defined by the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL®). ITIL recommends that a CMDB include a comprehensive Discovery solution. BMC Discovery solutions support the ITIL framework by providing relationship mappings, and facilitating rapid creation of a service model.
