BMC Software First to Achieve Siebel Validation
BMC Performance Manager Provides Customers with New Functionality, Monitoring Capabilities
HOUSTON — (Oct. 18, 2005) — BMC Software, Inc. [NYSE: BMC], a leading provider of enterprise management solutions, today announced that it has successfully validated BMC® Performance Manager for Siebel eBusiness Applications with Siebel 7.7 and Siebel 7.8. This is the first management solution for Siebel 7.8 validated by Siebel Systems, Inc., a leading provider of customer-facing solutions.
Siebel Systems, as part of its long-standing relationship with BMC Software, has partnered with BMC to bring best practices and integrated management strategies to their customers. With the validation of BMC Performance Manager for Siebel eBusiness Applications customer-facing solutions, companies running Siebel applications can proactively detect, monitor, and report potential problems before they affect customers and end users, ensuring that essential CRM software is available and performing optimally 24x7. The BMC Performance Manager solution increases availability of data and optimizes Siebel performance through the application lifecycle and across different technologies thus supporting BMC Software’s Business Service Management (BSM) strategy which enables companies to move beyond traditional IT management to better optimize and manage their critical services from a business perspective. By applying business relevance in automating application management, companies can ensure the most critical business systems are addressed first.
With the advanced monitoring capabilities of BMC Performance Manager, administrators can easily manage many components in a Siebel environment, including monitoring the health of components and tasks and restarting them automatically when they are down. The product helps administrators identify which remote users have not synchronized with the Siebel server over a given period of time and sends them a reminder to synchronize their data.
BMC Performance Manager for Siebel eBusiness Applications offers new functionality, including transaction router throughput, workflow monitor agent throughput and SARM 7.7 and 7.8 support. This new functionality increases employee productivity and customer satisfaction by measuring and improving quality of service from an end-user perspective. The solution reduces implementation time, lowers the total cost of ownership, and maximizes current IT resources. In this release, new Siebel 7 Application Response Measurement (SARM) capabilities are utilized to obtain detailed breakdowns of request performance which allows for much faster diagnostics of performance issues and their source. Other enhancements include the ability to tune transaction routers, enhanced workflow management, and easier deployment through the use of rule sets for system-wide configuration.
“We are working closely with BMC Software to continue enhancing BMC Performance Manager to gain an unparalleled diagnostic view of the performance and availability of Siebel applications,” said Butch Winters, vice president and general manager of Global Alliances for Siebel. “Our joint customers can see that this long-term relationship delivers compatible architectures and cutting-edge technology for efficiently building dynamic customer relationships.”

Siebel Business Applications and BMC Software application lifecycle management are providing our customers, and us, with a significant increase in customer loyalty and corporate profitability.”
About BMC Performance Manager
BMC Performance Manager utilizes a policy-based deployment mechanism that automatically employs the appropriate level of management technology based on a user’s goals. The inherent intelligence removes the requirement for an IT manager to decide which management technology to deploy, agent-based or agent-less, allowing them to shift their focus to the desired outcome instead, a basic tenet of BSM.
