Airline Tariff Publishing Company (ATPCO) Continues Its Commitment to Dynamic Batch Management Solution from BMC Software

CONTROL-M Allows ATPCO to Manage Its Batch Processes to Deliver Superior Customer Service

HOUSTON — (Feb. 16, 2005) — BMC Software, Inc. [NYSE: BMC], a leading provider of enterprise management solutions, today announced that Airline Tariff Publishing Company (ATPCO) has chosen to extend its commitment to CONTROL-M for dynamic batch management.  A long-time CONTROL-M customer for its mainframe batch processes, ATPCO is expanding its use of CONTROL-M to its distributed environment, which includes Windows NT, Linux, IBM AIX and HP servers.  CONTROL-M enables ATPCO to manage and integrate dissimilar applications into one business flow, enabling ATPCO to better manage its fare-related batch processes to enrich its customers’ online experience.

ATPCO offers the airline industry a single source for complete fare-related data through travel data services and solutions, including revenue accounting and decision support systems.  ATPCO collects this information from over 500 airlines and distributes it to computer reservation systems (CRS) and global distribution systems (GDS).  The CONTROL-M solution, which manages batch processing in both the distributed and mainframe environments, allows ATPCO to proactively manage batch processes according to their importance to the business, thus helping them achieve Business Service Management (BSM).  BMC Software’s BSM strategy enables companies to move beyond traditional IT management to better control their critical services from a business perspective.

“We’ve been using BMC Software’s CONTROL-M products on the mainframe for more than eight years, submitting 15,000 jobs per day on average.  Now, we realize our distributed systems environment can benefit from greater management of its batch processes so we need a tool that works seamlessly in both the distributed and mainframe environment,” said Tim LaFollette, Data Center Manager, ATPCO.  “CONTROL-M has been a solid solution for us, allowing us to update our database with the latest fare information.  Having up-to-date and accurate fare information is critically important to maintain our competitiveness and reliability.“

CONTROL-M is a business integrated scheduling product that focuses on the production environment's business applications and platforms.  It provides advanced production-scheduling capabilities across the enterprise from a single point of control.  CONTROL-M's unique architecture and multiple components address security, reliability, availability and scalability requirements.  CONTROL-M combines job scheduling functions such as creating job flows, monitoring operations and error recovery with an infrastructure that enables complete enterprise integration, providing flexibility and availability for customers' business applications, integration and management challenges.  It provides advanced production-scheduling capabilities across the enterprise from a single point of control.

“CONTROL-M allows ATPCO to manage critical batch processes across both their mainframe and distributed systems. This ability is essential and allows ATPCO to manage their batch scheduling from a single console,” said Gur Steif, director, Application Management, BMC Software.  “The batch and online environments are becoming increasingly dependent on one another in today’s business services.  BMC Software provides a unique solution for ATPCO to address these environments in totality from a business perspective, thus assuring the availability of their vital fare publishing services.”
