BMC Software Provides New Capabilities to Scale from Light-Weight Monitoring to Robust System Management PATROL Express Allows IT Departments to Match Infrastructure Management and Monitoring Products to Meet Critical Business Needs BMC Software today announced:
HOUSTON - (July 21, 2003) - BMC Software, Inc., [NYSE: BMC], a leader in enterprise management, today announced enhancements to its PATROL family of solutions. PATROL matches infrastructure management and monitoring solutions to customers' needs through a sliding scale of management approach. Since not all systems require the same level of management, IT departments can reduce costs and increase return on investment (ROI) by choosing the right tools for each system. Utilizing the PATROL family of solutions, customers are able to choose from light-weight entry level monitoring to advanced proactive management with solutions that seamlessly integrate through one centralized Web-based interface.
To extend the PATROL solution and enhance its sliding scale of management approach, BMC Software today announced a new version of PATROL Express. PATROL Express 3.0, which remotely monitors infrastructure and measures performance against user-defined service level objectives, now monitors Web transactions from the end-user perspective and offers customers an option to measure Internet latency through 30+ points of presence (POPs). This enables IT to quickly determine how infrastructure problems affect an end-user's Web experience. With this announcement, PATROL Express now has new Web transaction monitoring capabilities that monitor and measure a transaction after online configuration and supports all major dynamic HTML techniques and popular content download types. PATROL Express 3.0 also delivers new notifications that will alert different recipients for different services, and new reports that can be sent to the account level or service level. The solution now provides performance measurements in terms of business services via new Service Measures reports. In addition, a new alarm state, "Critical Alarm," has been added that allows customers to specify what conditions must be met for an element to be considered in "Critical Alarm" status, thus allowing IT to respond more quickly and effectively to service-related failures. PATROL Express continues to be a vital part of BMC Software's Business Service Management (BSM) strategy, enabling customers to move beyond traditional IT management and manage their business critical services from both an IT and business perspective. "PATROL Express augments Corio's world-class monitoring infrastructure by providing quick delivery of a cost-effective monitoring solution for Corio ustomers," said Noahal Mundt, senior architect, Service Management Automation, Corio, a leading Application Service Provider. "Corio delivers Applications on Demand, a flexible, 'pay-as-you-go,' utility-like service to deliver enterprise applications. The service delivery organization within Corio uses PATROL Express to quickly provide proactive monitoring of systems within our enterprise. Corio has achieved a 35 percent cost savings using PATROL Express, and plans to increase the use of PATROL Express as new features and functionality become available." Sliding Scale of Management Matches Products to Customer Needs "The sliding scale of management enables customers to dramatically reduce their cost of maintaining the enterprise while substantially increasing service levels by providing the flexibility to scale from light-weight monitoring to robust system management based on each element's criticality to the business service," said Mary Smars, vice president, PATROL, Enterprise Systems Management for BMC Software. "The combination of PATROL and PATROL Express allows customers to choose the solution or combination of solutions that fits their management and monitoring needs while giving them choice and control over licensing costs."
