Installation System Overview

Installation consists of the following steps:

  1. Tape unload
  2. Product customization

Tape unload

The following installation methods are supported:

The Express installation method and the Custom installation method provide you with a fully usable SMP/E environment that can be used to maintain a set of integrated BMC Software products.

The Express method consists of a two-part installation process:

  1. Unload the product by using IEBCOPY.
  2. Unload and construct the environment in which to apply SMP/E maintenance.

The Custom method consists of RECEIVE and APPLY processes for functions and maintenance.

View a comparison of Express and Custom methods here.

The normal maintenance method that is supported by OS/390 and z/OS is SMP/E. Using the Express method or the Custom method installs products at the latest production maintenance level. Corrective and preventive maintenance is delivered in SMP/E format (APARs, Zaps, and PTFs). Emergency fixes are provided by using a method that is determined by the product team.

Product customization

All MAINVIEW and RESOLVE/SRM products continue to use their current customization methods.
