10. What tools will BMC provide to customers to aid in their compliance with BMC agreements?
1. Why is BMC Software launching this new program?
BMC Software adapts to changing customer and business needs. Customers have told us they would like to see changes in how we provide access to our products, and this program is targeted to address these changes. We are providing a consistent customer interface to a single corporate Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) site, as well as a simplified approach to license key management.
2. I am an existing BMC customer who has a valid Support agreement with BMC. Can I download my maintenance upgrades from the new EPD site?
Yes, as an existing BMC customer with a valid Support agreement with BMC, you can download your maintenance upgrades using the EPD site.
3. As an existing or future BMC customer, can I trial a product from the new EPD site?
Yes, as an existing or future BMC customer, you can trial products using the EPD site. Any product download for which your organization is not already licensed constitutes a demonstration copy of the software product and should be done only with the knowledge of your BMC Account Executive or your BMC Partner. If you are downloading a product for trial purposes, your BMC Account Executive or BMC Partner will be notified about this trial download, and trial support coverage will be organized through the BMC Account Executive or the BMC Partner.
4. How do I get additional capacity for a current release?
You, the BMC customer, should contact your BMC Sales Representative to increase the product capacity.
5. As a BMC customer, I still want physical shipment of products. What do I need to do?
All BMC customers can still receive physical shipment of products. Please contact your BMC Sales Representative to request physical distribution.
6. I have just received a couple of e-mail messages from BMC. It looks like they are associated with an order that I have placed. What are they and what should I do with the information provided?
As a BMC customer who has just placed an order with BMC for products to be electronically distributed, you have just received an Order Confirmation e-mail message and an Order Detail e-mail message. These two documents confirm your order and allow you, the customer ,immediate access to the EPD site to download the products for which you have purchased a license. The two messages provide you a link to the EPD site and user credentials for login access to the site. The second message you received, the Order Detail, provides a complete list of products for which you have purchased a license and Support Contract ID, which you need to download your products.
7. What is the purpose of the Temporary Support ID? Does it have an expiration date? I already have a Support ID—can I use that to login?
The Order Confirmation e-mail message that is sent to a BMC customer when a new order is placed provides a Temporary Support ID. The Temporary Support ID has been provided to allow immediate access to the EPD site. The Temporary Support ID expires 60 days from the date issued, allowing time for the standard Support ID to arrive. If you are an existing BMC Software customer and have a valid Support ID, you should use it instead of the Temporary Support ID.
8. What is BMC doing to simplify license key management?
In an effort to simplify the way customers do business with BMC, we have taken a very close look at our license key management processes. Some of your products will no longer require a license key, whereas other products will move to a master license key. In some cases, you will find that there is no change to the license key management process. In all cases, you will get all the license key and password information that you need to install the product when you download the License Key Information file from the EPD site.
9. How will I know if my product requires a license key? For products still requiring license keys for temporary or trial use, how do I obtain the license keys?
On the EPD site, each product version will have a License Key Information file that contains specific information related to license keys. If a product still requires a license key, the License Key Information file will provide trial keys or will automatically redirect you to the trial key generator sites.
10. What tools will BMC provide to customers to aid in their compliance with BMC agreements?
BMC will make available new and improved license usage reporting utilities that will be delivered with upcoming product versions. These utilities will provide customers with information about installed and implemented BMC products. Customers will find additional information regarding these utilities in the product documentation.
1. How do I access the Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) site?
2. How is the EPD site structured? What are the four steps?
3. Can you describe the Step 1, Export Validation and License Terms?
4. How does Step 2, Select Product, work?
5. Can you explain Step 3, Select Product Version? Will I need to select the product version each time I want to download a product?
6. What will I see when I get to Step 4, Download Files?
7. How long should it take a product to download from the EPD site?
8. a) Are there any unique requirements for OZI installed products?
b) Why do I have to select products both on the product distribution site and then again once I start the Mainframe Installation Process? When will this issue be resolved?
1. How do I access the Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) site?
After you are logged into the Customer Support website, you will be able to access the new EPD site by selecting Downloads from the Downloads and Patches link on the right of the screen. From there, the site is structured in a four step process.
2. How is the EPD site structured? What are the four steps?
The site is structured as a four-step navigation process:
- Export Validation and License Terms
- Select Product
- Select Product Version
- Download Files
3. Can you describe the first Step, Export Validation and License Terms?
This screen is required to meet US Export Compliance requirements and to define the License Terms for the site. You, the BMC customer, must read and accept the terms and conditions of this site before proceeding to Step 2.
4. How does Step 2, Select Product, work?
In Step 2, Select Product, you have the ability to create your list of favorite BMC products. BMC recommends that you select those products that you are entitled to use as a BMC customer. After you create this list, it will be saved for your return visits. From your favorites list, you can select just the products you want to download on your visit.
5. Can you explain Step 3, Select Product Version? Will I need to select the product version each time I want to download a product?
Step 3, Select Product Version, allows you to search for a product by platform and language. You will need to select a version of a product each time you want to download the product. This step ensures that you are able to select the most current data available.
6. What will I see when I get to Step 4, Download Files?
For each of the products and versions selected, you will see product files, documentation files, patch information, and license key file information. By selecting these links, you can download all the files needed to install the product.
7. How long should it take a product to download from the EPD site?
Download time depends on the download speed at the end-user site and the size of the file being downloaded.
8. a) Are there any unique requirements for OZI installed products?
The OZI installed products still use the OZI installer. The New EPD site will contain a Link called “Start the Installation Process” which will direct customers to that installer. Once the installer is started, the mainframe product selection happens inside the dialog as usual.
b) Why do I have to select products both on the product distribution site and then again once I start the Mainframe Installation Process? When will this issue be resolved?
During this initial integration with the new product delivery site, it was not possible to utilize single product selection. There are plans to integrate the OZI installation architecture more seamlessly with the product download interface so that products will only be selected one time.
