Read the results of BMC’s Annual Worldwide Mainframe Survey
Once again, BMC has surveyed nearly 1,300 mainframe users worldwide. And the story remains the same—mainframe continues to be a critical business tool.
For the past seven years, we’ve conducted this survey to get the best picture possible of how the mainframe supports real businesses—and how we can make it even better. In this year’s survey, participants offered their insights on growth, challenges, and priorities:
- 90 percent consider mainframe to be a long-term business solution; 50 percent agree it will attract new workloads
- 69 percent say keeping IT costs down is their top priority, up from 60 percent in 2011
- 59 percent expect MIPS to grow, highlighting the need for software that exploits specialty engines
- 75 percent are concerned about the shortage of skilled mainframe staff, making the need for automated, self-learning software greater than ever
The big takeaway: Mainframe is certainly here to stay. But it needs to continue to evolve, grow, and become more intelligent to keep pace with the velocity, volume, and variety of applications and data consumers and business users demand from modern IT.Get the full details and dig into the data.
