CUSTOMER SUCCESS: M&I Bank Drives Enhanced Operational Efficiency and Compliance with BMC SoftwareHOUSTON, June 1, 2010 – M&I Marshall & Ilsley Bank has deployed BMC Software’s (NASDAQ: BMC) BladeLogic solutions with great success, driving significant operational efficiencies related to its payment processing systems and enhanced compliance with the bank’s IT control requirements. After a thorough selection process, the Milwaukee-based bank selected BMC BladeLogic Application Release Automation to roll out configuration changes and software releases to payment processing systems in an efficient, controlled and auditable manner. The bank also needed a flexible role-based access controls tool to meet the needs of its staffing model while demonstrating compliance with access requirements tied to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and the Gramm Leach Bliley Act (GLBA). “BMC BladeLogic allows us to combine preventive controls on the front end with detective controls on the back end to meet the ongoing requirements of logical access and change management,” said Chris John, vice president of IT risk and controls for M&I Bank. BMC BladeLogic helps prevent unauthorized access to M&I’s production environment by ensuring that any “package” containing “code” -- scripts, executable files and more -- developed by an employee is approved by someone else before it is deployed. On the back end, reporting functions provide compensating controls that address audit requirements to identify access privileges and changes. These reports confirm whether changes were authorized and deployed appropriately. “With BMC Software, we met two primary objectives. We have much stronger controls surrounding our release and change management practices, and we are able to schedule, deploy and back-out, if necessary, releases in our distributed environment more efficiently,” John said. “Our success with ’Phase I’ of BMC BladeLogic has allowed us to purchase an additional 200 new licenses for integration with other key applications throughout the company.” BMC BladeLogic also is effective in saving time during software upgrades. Before BladeLogic, an upgrade process could take hours or days to complete when factoring in detailed checklists and readiness verifications. BMC BladeLogic minimizes the need to build these detailed checklists because the process can be built into and controlled by the tool. In the event something went wrong, BladeLogic would provide visibility into the environment to identify what might be causing a problem, back-out the release with the click of a mouse, remediate and re-deploy.
