BMC Software Announces 2001 BMC Software Grand Prix Cycling Schedule New Bay Area Event and $225,000 Makes For A Premier Cycling Series

March 7, 2001 (Houston, TX) - For the third-straight year, the BMC Software Cycling Grand Prix will stretch from east coast to west coast, bringing some of the world's top professional cyclists to U.S. soil to compete for prize purses and potential bonuses that could exceed $225,000. |
The BMC Software Cycling Grand Prix schedule, will again encompass four events, including a new San Francisco Bay Area event, the details of which will be made public later this month. Each race weekend will host an array of community elements including spectator friendly expos, live entertainment and interactive activities geared to cycling aficionados and those new to the sport. |
"The BMC Software Grand Prix gets bigger every year with more participation from international level teams and boasts one of the riches prize purses in the sport of cycling," said Technical Director Robin Morton. "The most exciting addition to this years BMC Software Grand Prix is the new Bay Area event on which we are working very closely with BMC Software and USA Cycling. Everyone involved is tremendously excited about what we have planned and I think this is another step in taking the sport of cycling to a new level." In addition to this new San Francisco Bay Area event, the series will once again kick-off with the BMC Software Downtown Criterium in Austin, TX, April 7, which will feature a top field of international competition, including two-time Tour de France winner and Austin-resident Lance Armstrong. The BMC Software Grand Prix will then move to the Boston-area for the BMC Software Tour of Arlington on July 8 before culminating with the BMC Software Tour of Houston on Sept. 16 in Houston. |

| The BMC Software Downtown Criterium in Austin will test the riders on a high speed, one-mile course with a steady incline between turns one and two. The Arlington course features a 3.5-mile circuit, which features two very hilly climbs. Both the Austin and Arlington events will boast international fields of top male and female riders. |
The BMC Software Tour of Houston is a traditional road race for men that is fast and challenging and reminiscent of a course in Belgium or Holland that comes down to a sprint at the line. Following the men's event is a timed one-hour criterium for women through the streets of downtown Houston that will include Olympians and international caliber athletes.

The BMC Software Grand Prix is a critical series within the Pro Cycling Tour (PCT) calendar. The PCT is the nation's premier cycling series, linking the top professional road cycling events across the United States from March through October.
