BMC Software® Rapidly Integrates Marimba Solutions into Product Portfolio Company Continues to Deliver on Change and Configuration Management Strategy Announced Last Month HOUSTON - (July 19, 2004) - BMC Software, Inc. [NYSE: BMC], a leading provider of enterprise management solutions, today detailed its product integration plans for Marimba, a software change and configuration management provider acquired by BMC Software on July 15, 2004. Marimba products provide new and extended capabilities to BMC Software's Business Service Management (BSM) strategy in three key areas: change and configuration management, security management and infrastructure management. Integration of the Marimba products with existing BMC Software solutions has already begun. For example, Marimba's policy-based configuration capabilities and Remedy® Asset Management and Remedy Change Management are integrated today. Other Marimba technologies will be leveraged through future integrations with BMC Software solutions, including PATROL® infrastructure and application management solutions, BMC Service Impact Manager, and CONTROL-SA® identity management solution. The aggressive integration process strengthens BMC Software's BSM strategy, enabling enterprises to rapidly respond to changing business requirements by re-purposing, re-provisioning and updating IT resources to achieve required IT configurations. "Just days after closing the Marimba acquisition, BMC Software is capitalizing on its expanded capabilities to deliver immediate value to customers," said Bob Beauchamp, president and CEO, BMC Software. "The rapid integration of our complementary technologies positions BMC as the only source for a comprehensive BSM solution that spans mainframe, distributed servers, clients and mobile devices." "Managing change within our organization is becoming more challenging. We welcome solutions such as those which BMC Software is offering with its new change and configuration management strategy," said Kevin Colwell, Capital District Physicians' Health Plan. "The ability to bring our changes into perspective in terms of how they affect our business can provide us with a strong competitive differentiator." Delivering on Change and Configuration Management Strategy
"Defining the logical linkages between IT infrastructure components and business services is essentially a manual, time-intensive process today. The difficulty in maintaining the linkages in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment has been an inhibitor to the success of BSM tools," said Debra Curtis, research vice president at Gartner. "Enterprises must have a mature, service-oriented IS organization, well-defined change management processes and good event management in place to be successful at BSM." "As a longtime BMC Software business partner, we see strong synergies between Marimba and BMC solutions," said Stanislas de Bentzmann, CEO of Devoteam, a leading European Information Technology Consulting Group. "By integrating Marimba's strong configuration management capabilities into the broader BMC product offerings, BMC Software is uniting key technologies and processes to provide a more complete answer to key problems our customers face." Expanding Infrastructure and Security Management Capabilities Marimba's security management solution, Marimba Patch Management, strengthens BMC Software's security management capabilities by enabling enterprises to automatically identify and quickly deliver missing patches and fixes to thousands of end-points, across heterogeneous operating environments. Integration of Marimba Patch Management with BMC Software solutions will address remediation for the most common vulnerability sources identified by Gartner1 - missing patches, unnecessary applications and services, access control loopholes, and mis-configurations. The first integrations with Marimba Patch Management, planned for the first half of 2005, will be with the Remedy IT Service Management suite, including Remedy Help Desk, Remedy Asset Management, and Remedy Change Management. Future integrations are planned with CONTROL-SA identity management and PATROL infrastructure and application management solutions.
