BMC Software Wins Awards for Outstanding Solutions

CONTROL-D^® Wins Transform Magazine Reader's Choice Award and PATROL^® Express 3.0 Wins VARBusiness Tech Innovator Award in the Web Services Category

HOUSTON - (December 10, 2003) - BMC Software, Inc. [NYSE: BMC], a leading provider of enterprise management, today announced that it has won awards for two of its outstanding solutions: CONTROL-D and PATROL Express 3.0 which are part of BMC Software's Business Service Management (BSM) strategy. BMC Software's BSM strategy enables customers to change the way they do business - to begin managing IT from a business perspective. It allows customers to understand and predict the impact of technology changes on the business, and conversely, understand how changes in the business impact the IT infrastructure.

BMC Software recently won a Transform Magazine Readers Choice Award for CONTROL-D in the Output and Report Management Category. CONTROL-D automates the management and distribution of information throughout the enterprise, providing higher service levels while reducing operational costs. It guarantees information delivery and its availability by minimizing the manual efforts required to distribute output and by using Web technology to provide access to archived and current output. The first annual awards were presented at CMP Media's TechXNY. Transform (www.transformmag.com/) is a print and online publication read by more than 60,000 business leaders and IT managers implementing content and collaboration products and strategies. Additionally, PATROL Express 3.0, which remotely monitors infrastructure and measures performance against user-defined service level objectives, was named a finalist in the Web Services category of the VARBusiness Tech Innovators awards program. As an agentless solution, which does not require agents to be deployed on the devices being monitored, PATROL Express permits customers to remotely monitor a wide range of platforms and applications across firewalls, in a secure manner while greatly improving customers' ability to manage large numbers of servers. PATROL Express was among more than 400 entries submitted by nearly 250 companies in eight technology categories.

VARBusiness magazine, which covers the business of technology integration, honored BMC Software at an awards event held on Oct. 27, 2003, in Scottsdale, Ariz. In addition, PATROL Express will be recognized in the VARBusiness Dec. 15th "State of Technology" issue, which includes profiles, features and in-depth explanations of the technologies and products.
