Solutions Help Align ARAMCO's IT with its Business Needs

Dubai, UAE - (November 24, 2003) - BMC Software, Inc. [NYSE: BMC], a leader in enterprise management, today announced that oil giant Saudi ARAMCO is rolling out a major implementation of BMC Software solutions to ensure a better alignment of its computer systems with its business processes.

Saudi ARAMCO is part of a growing number of leading global organizations that are adopting BMC Software's Business Service Management (BSM), a method of automating the relationship between the business and the IT infrastructure in order to drive business success and obtain the best value from its solutions.

The company has been a long-term user of BMC Software solutions, with the industry-leading data and system management products installed on company mainframes and then, with the corporate move to SAP applications, on Sun Microsystems' platform. Saudi ARAMCO continues to extend its use of BMC Software solutions.

The original PATROL^® system management software implementation at the company provided Saudi ARAMCO with proactive monitoring and management of the key IT technology. At that time, however, there was no easy way to prioritise service calls in relation to their impact on the business. That challenge continues across the globe - IT systems are not integrated with business needs and often, technology issues are responded to based on IT requirements rather than on the importance of the business process being affected.

Today, however, existing BMC Software solutions in place at Saudi ARAMCO provide the basis of a full BSM system - an objective positioned by Tim Peck, general manager of BMC Software Middle East, as achievable, given the applications in place and the desire for more efficient systems within the company.

To date, Saudi ARAMCO is using solutions from BMC Software to automate job scheduling and to monitor platforms, databases, and application. Enterprise security and total event consolidation initiatives currently are being rolled out. Additional BMC Software solutions will be added in the future to further enable the company to achieve full BSM.

In other words, BMC Software solutions will allow Saudi ARAMCO to change the way that staff view service and therefore increase the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of its business.
