BMC Software Achieves New Milestones in Business Service Management Strategy Accenture, EMC and Symantec Align with BMC Software to Bring Business Service Management to Customers; New Products Unveiled at NYC Event New York - (October 15, 2003) - At the BMC Software Forum in New York City, BMC Software, Inc. [NYSE: BMC], a leader in enterprise management, today announced the completion of key milestones related to the Company's Business Service Management (BSM) strategy, launched only six months ago. BMC Software President and CEO, Bob Beauchamp, introduced BSM Foundation Partners and unveiled several new products. Sharing the stage with Beauchamp were Foundation Partner members Accenture, EMC and Symantec, as well as Global Alliance Partners and BSM customers, Dell, Inc., Siebel Systems, Inc., Centrica and Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). BMC Software also discussed news of how the Company and Intel® Solution Services are working together to help predict the impact of business changes on IT. "Today's event marks yet another milestone in BMC's quest to deliver true BSM to our customers through our partners," said Beauchamp. "By partnering with Accenture, Dell, EMC, Siebel Systems and Symantec - leaders in their respective fields - and delivering new BSM-specific solutions, we have put the pieces in place to ensure our customers can quickly make BSM a reality in their organizations and begin immediately reaping the strategic and operational benefits of managing IT from a business point-of-view." "Since last April when BMC Software unveiled its BSM strategy, the company has worked steadily to deliver on that plan. A combination of key partnerships and integrated products designed to help customers tie IT and business together more effectively helped position BMC as a frontrunner in the race to bring BSM capabilities to the market," said Richard L. Ptak, analyst at Ptak & Associates, Inc. "BMC's BSM strategy provides a much-needed actionable approach to the implementation of intelligent, automated enterprise system management." Strategic Partnerships "Accenture and BMC have developed a pilot Business Service Management offering, called 'BSM QuickStart', that provides a rapid, proof-of-concept approach to a single business process. Customers begin to recognize benefits such as reducing costs and improving service levels in as little as six to eight weeks," said Andre Hughes, Partner, Accenture. Joe Tucci, EMC's President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "EMC is pleased to be a BSM Foundation Partner. Together, EMC and BMC have built a strong partnership. By working more closely together, we will create even greater value for our customers. Through the combination of BMC's deep knowledge at the server and application level and EMC's expertise at the storage network level, customers will benefit from a service level management solution across every layer of their IT infrastructure from end-to-end." "As businesses continue to become more global and connected in nature, there is an increasing reliance on information technology to communicate with customers, partners and employees, and businesses need to ensure that their infrastructure is protected," said John W. Thompson, Symantec chairman and CEO. "By partnering with BMC Software to expand business service management, we will help customers address cyber threats by managing security risks from a business perspective, thus minimizing downtime and performance degradation due to security breaches." BMC Software Global Alliance Partners Dell Inc. and Siebel Systems also discussed synergies between BMC's BSM offerings and the partners' enterprise strategies. Dell spokesperson Linda York, vice president of worldwide marketing at Dell, outlined the customer benefits of integrating BSM capabilities with standards-based platforms for scalable enterprise computing. "Customers are demanding standards-based IT solutions that scale with business demands and protect low TCO," said York. "BMC's BSM tools interface with Dell's scalable server and storage platforms, enabling customers to more closely align business policies with IT policies through more dynamic management functionality." BMC Software and Siebel Systems have committed to building a deeper integration between the Universal Application Network (UAN) and BSM solutions. Through its alliance with BMC Software, Siebel Systems will make it faster and simpler for mutual customers to leverage the power of BSM. Customers Reap Benefits From BSM A BMC Software customer since 1995, Centrica consultant program manager Matthew Burrows explained to the audience how the company is using BSM in its new service control center. "We view BSM as an enabling methodology. As we implement our new service control center, BSM has allowed us to identify the core business processes it encompasses while understanding how those processes affect the business as a whole," said Burrows. "Taking a BSM approach provides a clearer picture of our IT environment, which has enabled us to reduce our downtime while increasing our network availability." HCA sees BSM as a way to align its clinical business - patient care, including everything from admissions to medical charting to medication delivery, supplies and accounting - with IT. "We see tremendous value in the BSM concept. As an IT organization, our goal is to align our clinical business with IT, which will empower the way we deliver patient care," said Lee Adams, vice president, service management & delivery, HCA. "By linking IT and the business, BSM will allow us to deliver this care that our patients require, while further identifying the services most important to our customers." BMC Software also announced that it is working with Intel Solution Services, Intel's professional services organization, to integrate BMC Software's PATROL® Performance Assurance® solutions into Intel Solution Services' Advanced Data Center Practice. Intel Solution Services will use these solutions to help enterprise customers evaluate the cost-benefit ratios of various Itanium® 2 processor and Intel Xeon™ processor-based architectural and implementation choices to maximize return on investment by helping to predict the impact of business change on IT. New BSM Products Managing What Matters with BSM With BSM, BMC Software unveiled a plan for integrating all of its management disciplines into a cohesive strategy that allows IT to be managed from a business perspective. BMC Software built its BSM strategy around three essential components: Service Impact Management, IT Service and Applications Management and IT Operations and Infrastructure Management. The BSM strategy will continue to evolve over the next several years. In addition to new solutions that support BSM, the company will continue to expand partnerships to deliver on its BSM strategy.
