BMC Software and Intel Help Enterprise Customers Design Their IT Infrastructure for Optimal Business Performance Using Intel Architecture

BMC Software and Intel® Solution Services Work Together to Help Predict Impact of Business Changes on IT

New York - (October 15, 2003) - At the BMC Software Forum in New York City, BMC Software, Inc. [NYSE: BMC], a leader in enterprise management, today announced that it is working with Intel® Solution Services, Intel's professional services organization, to integrate BMC Software's PATROL® Performance Assurance® solutions into Intel Solution Services' Advanced Data Center Practice. Intel Solution Services will use these solutions to help enterprise customers evaluate the cost-benefit ratios of various Intel® Itanium® 2 and Intel® Xeon™ processor based architectural and implementation choices to maximize return on investment.

BMC Software's PATROL Performance Assurance solutions will be a part of Intel Solution Services' Advanced Data Center Practice, which helps customers optimize their enterprise IT environment to balance a company's requirements for scalability, high availability, business continuity, remote management and seamless integration. Intel Solution Services will install BMC Software's PATROL Performance Assurance solutions, PATROL Perceive, PATROL Perform and PATROL Predict, for their Adaptive Infrastructure and Capacity Planning Service. Intel Solution Services consultants will incorporate the advanced analytics and modeling capabilities of PATROL Performance Assurance solutions into their services methodologies to evaluate the cost-benefit ratios of server architecture selections, utilization optimization and return on investment.

"With our Intel architecture expertise and customized approach, Intel Solution Services is chartered to help our customers determine the right infrastructure based on their specific security, performance, database and application needs," said Ramesh Subramaniam, worldwide advanced data center practice director, Intel Solution Services. "In environments where server over-engineering and under- or non-utilized servers are the norm, we believe our data center redesign and server consolidation services will allow IT organizations to deliver a competitive edge. Choosing the best possible performance analysis and modeling solution as part of our Advanced Data Center Practice enables us to more accurately assess and deploy the correct systems and optimize configurations to deliver appropriate performance against constraints such as cost, power and floor space."

Intel is presenting its Performance Modeling Service at the New York City BMC Software Forum in a session titled, "Planning the Data Center of the Future." Intel's professional services organization, Intel Solution Services, works with enterprise IT and industry alliances to help companies capitalize on the full value of Intel® architecture through consulting focused on technology deployments.

Performance Assurance Solutions Enable IT to Make the Right Business Decisions
BMC Software made several announcements regarding its Business Service Management (BSM) strategy at its New York City Forum today. One of the benefits of BSM is to have the tools in place to take the right actions at the right time to maximize the value to the business, capabilities delivered by BMC Software's Performance Assurance solutions. The Performance Assurance solutions gather performance data on a customer's historic and current performance usage and generate business-oriented baselines. This baseline information is used to make decisions that will deliver the highest possible return to the customer, while balancing external constraints such as power, cooling and floor space. Business change scenarios (growth, consolidation, etc.) are also factored into the overall performance analysis, ensuring high confidence that the results will not only resolve today's performance problems, but will cost-effectively scale with the customers' business.

"Change is the name of the game in today's IT environments and the companies with the right tools to drive change from a business perspective will win," said David Wagner, director, Product Marketing, BMC Software. "We are pleased that Intel is incorporating the BSM strategy and implementing a complete performance life-cycle solution through PATROL Performance Assurance to create that Win-Win solution for them and their customers."

Limited engagements of the Performance Modeling engagements (including capacity planning, consolidation and migration) using PATROL Performance Assurance have already begun, with a full rollout to begin in January 2004.
