HOUSTON - (August 12, 2003) - BMC Software, Inc. (NYSE: BMC), a leading provider of enterprise management, today announced new SmartDBA data management solutions for Sybase and SQL Server databases. With the addition of SmartDBA Performance Monitoring Solutions for Sybase and SQL Server, BMC Software is providing DBAs with a single console, single monitoring and diagnostics solution for the four leading distributed database environments, Oracle, DB2® UDB, Sybase and SQL Server. BMC Software is continuing to provide intelligent, automated data management tools that have a common look and feel across all database platforms, helping database administrators (DBAs) function at an "expert" level for all of their companies' database environments.

According to Pradyumna Chinnammagari, SQL Server Administrator at CitiBank, "BMC's monitoring and reporting solutions help ensure the continuous operation of our High Availability financial systems and deliver 24x7 monitoring, reporting, escalation, and management. Additional support for the SQL Server environment should enable us to further increase the availability of our critical systems."

SmartDBA Performance Monitoring for Sybase v2.5 and SmartDBA Performance Monitoring for SQL Server v2.5 provide a comprehensive database administration environment for object management, event management, problem determination and diagnostics for Sybase and SQL Server environments. The addition of these solutions further rounds out BMC Software's SmartDBA data management portfolio as the Company continues to provide DBAs with a consistent strategy for managing mixed database environments

"With more and more companies moving to a staffing model that requires DBAs to work with multiple database environments, DBAs are faced with the difficult task of becoming 'true experts' in numerous database platforms," said Mike Ahlberg, director, distributed product management, Enterprise Data Management Division, BMC Software. "SmartDBA helps DBAs become 'instant experts' in all database environments, enabling companies to reduce costs, and individual DBAs to broaden their technical knowledge and contributions."
