BMC Software Wins 2003 Well-Connected Award from Network Computing

PATROL® for Microsoft Windows Servers Wins Top Award for Systems Management Suite Category

HOUSTON - (May 14, 2003) - BMC Software, Inc., [NYSE: BMC], a leader in enterprise management, today announced that PATROL® for Microsoft Windows Servers has been named a winner by CMP Media LLC's Network Computing of a 2003 Well-Connected Award in the category of Systems Management Suites. The product was chosen for its innovative automated monitoring and management capabilities. Serving as the foundation of BMC Software's full range of Microsoft management solutions, PATROL for Microsoft Windows Servers helps ensure systems are available to end-users and protects the continuity of the business services those systems support.

"BMC Software provides our customers with the broadest and deepest management solution for the Windows environment, enabling Windows administrators to manage this environment proactively. Our Windows products offer a comprehensive solution set across the entire enterprise, which has been enhanced by our close relationship with Microsoft," said Dave Anderson, director, Product Management and Development, PATROL Architecture and Platform Solutions, BMC Software. "This award is significant to BMC Software because it validates the importance of delivering a broad and deep solution for Windows by highlighting its success in real-world tests that reflect what the users really care about."

The winners of the Network Computing Well-Connected Awards were announced at a ceremony on Monday, April 28, 2003 held at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. All winners and finalists are highlighted in the May 1st issue of Network Computing, Network Computing Online at http://www.networkcomputing.com.

"The Well-Connected Awards are the only industry awards given by technologists based on real-world product testing and evaluation. We view all products, technologies and services from the same perspective as our readers - our peers - do," said Fritz Nelson, VP and publisher of Network Computing. "This is an important distinction from any other award program - the products selected in the Well-Connected Awards are unique because they have been tested over an enterprise by our editors themselves. They are truly innovative solutions that work."

PATROL for Microsoft Windows Servers reduces the complexity of the IT environment by providing management by exception with visual and audible alerts that automatically notify IT staff about critical events before a service is impacted. Most recently, BMC Software introduced its newest version of PATROL for Microsoft Windows Servers (version 3.0), providing increased flexibility and an improved wizard capability for extending the solution. Users are able to monitor any application in their environment with just a few configuration steps and experience improved workflow and out-of-the-box functionality while proactively managing their servers. The new version includes advanced capabilities including automatic discovery of Active Directory topology requiring no configuration of the product.
