Happenings on the VMworld show floor

Well, after the VMworld key note yesterday (read all  about it here) I hurried to the booth expecting many of our booth visitors to chat to us about hybrid cloud management and automation of all things. And, I was not disappointed. We had great conversations with both current customers using our BladeLogic automation suite and/or Remedy ITSM solutions and potential customers wanting to further extend automation across the data center and take that next step to cloud computing.

I must give a shout out to my colleagues Steve Velazquez and Rick Lefort who tirelessly gave demo after demo

VMworld.jpgof BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management (CLM) to customers. There was lots of interest around how to provision not just infrastructure but also applications in the cloud and the management task around that. Demo viewers were surprised at just how automated the provisioning of services can be with the functionality in CLM providing automation of not just request and provisioning but of monitoring, compliance and configuration management as well.

We also spoke to a number of booth visitors saying they are “thinking” about cloud or “looking” at it or “dabbling” in it. I think we as vendors can sometimes get ahead of ourselves and assume that companies are far further along in the cloud adoption curve than they actually are.  The good thing for these cloud ‘laggards’ (and I mean that in the kindest way possible) is that when they do take the leap to cloud adoption, they will discover just how far the cloud market has progressed and have at their fingertips the solutions to help them plan, build and run their cloud across hybrid models and across diverse infrastructures. They stand to benefit enormously from the speedy progression of the cloud management market in the last couple of years.

Oh, and a lot of visitors to the booth were surprised at the breadth of BMC’s solutions – from mainframe to client server to cloud and mobile and across the IT Business Service Management lifecycle – we have solutions to cover it all. Come and check it out at booth 2123.
