This week, I was lucky enough to visit the beautiful state of California and tour one of the data center facilities of QTS, a BMC cloud services provider customer, in Santa Clara. This data center is one of the 13 QTS have across North America from which they deliver their three ‘C’s’ to customers: Co-location, Custom Data Centers and Cloud Services. Two of the other QTS data centers in North America are amongst the biggest in the world!
I must say I was very impressed with this facility – and not just the high level of security in place which range from card scans to biometric screenings – but also with the way QTS clearly designs and operates their data centers with their customers in mind. I saw the way they are able to customize their services for different SLA & other requirements; their customers clearly gaining much value from partnering with a local services provider – both for traditional managed services needs and for cloud. And, with Fort Knox like security and built-in backup and redundancy across cooling, water, power and other systems, their customers are clearly sleeping well at night.
QTS is complementing their data center and managed services offerings with agile and scalable cloud services. They have implemented the BMC Cloud Management platform to offer automated and self-service cloud services to customers with use cases including web hosting, test & dev, disaster recovery and SaaS enablement. The QTS cloud offerings will continue to evolve with their changing customers’ needs.
