HOUSTON – (Dec. 13, 2005) – BMC Software, Inc. [NYSE: BMC], a leader in enterprise management, today announced the successful deployment of Business Service Management (BSM) solutions at Central Technology Services (CTS), a provider of operations and information technology services to affiliates of Central Bancompany. CTS deployed BMC solutions to optimize mainframe capacity, data availability and back-up and recovery. CTS’ Information Technology initiatives, combined with BMC solutions, provide greater service to its customers by streamlining the management of the company’s mainframe environment, enhancing database performance and reducing response time.
CTS relies on its 260 MIP mainframe system to seamlessly manage data availability and transactions for financial institutions and local government agencies. This CPU intensive process had brought their system to 92% capacity, and it seemed certain that purchasing additional hardware was the only remedy. However, CTS implemented solutions from BMC to eliminate transaction redundancy and enhance the performance of its DB2 database. The result was better business service for its end-users and an increase in unused CPU capacity, eliminating the need for new hardware.
“Our end-users have seen and felt the impact of these solutions, even if they don’t realize what it is,” said Jerry Kolb, manager of Systems and Operations, Central Technology Services. “The service we provide to more than 13 banks and government agencies is mission-critical and keeps their business running. Quite simply, the ability to store, access and retrieve all necessary data, in a stronger and faster manner, to enhance the business services of our customers was why we chose BMC solutions.”
Among several benefits, CTS reduced their back-up time by 40 hours per month. CTS has been able to prolong its CPU upgrades, on average, by a year, increasing available CPU capacity from 8% to 21% using BMC solutions, helping them get more out of their existing infrastructure, mainframe resources and staff. CTS has increased availability of its critical end-user data by expediting DB2 recoveries, ensuring data integrity, migrating data changes and auditing internal activity on critical data assets. By utilizing automated reporting and tracking features, the mainframe environment is streamlined and optimized in function. At a time when mainframe talent and specialization within the IT industry is diminishing, optimized mainframe environments increase automation and efficiency enabling the transition of DBAs to higher value projects.
