BMC Software Acquires Emprisa Networks

  • Extends Business Service Management (BSM) and Service Automation Solutions With A Network Infrastructure Management and Automation Leader
  • Improves Overall Network Compliance, Serviceability and Security
  • Integrates With BMC Atrium CMDB to Provide Comprehensive View of IT Infrastructure
  • Integrates with BMC Change Management to Provide Central Control of Network Change Across Data Center and Beyond

HOUSTON, October 8, 2007 – BMC Software today announced it has acquired privately held Emprisa Networks, a leader in smart network compliance, change and configuration management and automation solutions.

The acquisition of Emprisa Networks will extend BMC’s leading Business Service Management (BSM) and service automation technologies to address complex, multi-vendor network infrastructures, allowing customers to reduce operational costs and improve service response times through advanced network change and configuration automation.

“Critical IT infrastructures now extend well beyond the data center. With the acquisition of Emprisa Networks, BMC extends its service automation strategy to help customers reach IT automation and efficiency goals across the entire infrastructure- inside the data center and out,” said Jim Grant, senior vice president and general manager of BMC’s Enterprise Service Management business unit. “Managing change across the network is critical for service availability and provisioning. With this acquisition, BMC offers the only platform independent, multi-vendor network configuration automation solution.”

Emprisa’s E-NetAware was designed from the ground up to complement customers’ ITIL, BSM and other IT service management initiatives. Tightly integrating with traditional network configuration management capabilities, advanced security change management features improve levels of infrastructure security across multi-vendor networks. With E-NetAware, companies are able to:

  • Control and audit configuration change across the entire network infrastructure
  • Centrally define, audit, and enforce compliance to corporate and regulatory network security policies
  • Rapidly assess and remediate network security vulnerabilities

As a BMC Technology Alliance and BMC MarketZone partner, Emprisa Networks solutions are already fully integrated with BMC’s industry leading Atrium Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and BMC Change Management System, allowing customers to instantly reap the benefits of the union.

Evelyn Hubbert, a senior analyst at Forrester Research, wrote in the June 2007 report The Network Management Software Market: “Today, network management teams need to manage and understand network-related issues across silos such as servers, storage, security, databases, and applications. They need to manage complex and dynamic IP networks to connect customers, vendors, and employees. Forrester sees the traditional network management space becoming service-oriented: The attention is on the service that is being delivered to the business. Innovations such as IT automation and Web services management techniques, and best practices such as ITIL, have changed the network management market and will continue to shape it in the years to come.”

“Considering the unique focus both companies place on managing IT from a business service perspective and the impressive list of customers we already have in common, there is no question this is a positive move for the business and our customers,” said Sherrie Woodring, CEO and Co-founder of Emprisa Networks. “Bringing our proven network management technology into the broader BSM vision will redefine what is expected in the Network Change and Configuration Management space.”
