BMC Configuration Automation for Clients
Desktop Engineering organizations have reported the lack of the ability to effectively and consistently communicate with operations regarding change remediation because they lack process standards that offer visibility into the risk and/or dependencies of proposed changes. Engineering and Operations do not “speak the same change language” resulting in costly redo’s and unclear directives. For example, it is frequently difficult for them to determine the business impact of desktop software deployment activities on production equipment. Additional challenges include the enforcement of software configuration standards, OS configuration standards, and the management of application break-fixes. They also have concerns related to software license compliance management (i.e. are they using more copies of the software than they have paid for.)
Many companies worry about patch and security compliance and are reactive (at best) in managing security vulnerabilities. This is a significant issue because they have to deal with it everyday. For large enterprises, these challenges are amplified by the sheer numbers of desktops that must be supported and scalability becomes a major issue, (i.e. it must be done through broad automation instead of manual processes). Problems escalate when merger and acquisition activity or rapid growth is present.
BMC Configuration Automation for Clients takes a proactive approach to solving desktop engineering configuration management pain by:
- Reducing the complexity of managing diverse desktop environments by automating and standardizing desktop change execution across the enterprise
- Reducing administrative costs by defining and enforcing continual compliance with desktop software configuration policies
- Enabling customers to proactively manage desktop configuration unscheduled, real-time exceptions rather than react to problems as they occur
- Reducing business risks through deployment of standardized operating environments and by continuously auditing and reporting on the state of patch and security compliance across enterprise client devices
- Optionally populating the BMC Atrium CMDB with all baseline and deviation configurations to provide full asset lifecycle information
- Logging historical changes for audit purposes
